Hindu Weddings

I went to a Hindu wedding last weekend – it was a lot more complicated than a Sikh wedding! Much the same as with Sikhs, Hindus perform a “Maya” the day before the wedding – a symbolic cleansing of the couple before the ceremony. The wedding itself is much longer and more involved than a Sikh wedding – for example, the couple must agree to vows and perform rituals on each other as part of the celebration.
The Hindu wedding ceremony is conducted by a “Pundit” – a Hindu holy man. For this particular wedding, he spoke in Hindi but translated into English for the benefit of many of the guests!
