Bhangra evolved from a traditional Punjab folk dance that was performed to celebrate the harvest season. It is know to have originated at least 1000 years ago! From the 1980’s British Asians began to make Bhangra music with a more Western influence. Although not widely seen in the British charts, there have been a couple of mainstream Bhangra artists, such as Panjabi MC.
